How I Can Help
Moving affects much more than your physical space. It can change how you see yourself, your relationships, your sense of belonging and what you want from your life.
These conversations give you space to slow things down, make sense of what has changed and work out what you want to do with what comes next.
Finding your place
You’re wondering where you actually belong now that you are in a new country; is it in your old life, is it here or maybe somewhere in between the two?
What we might explore
We can talk about what “belonging” means to you at this point in your life. Maybe you feel caught between your old life and your new one, so it feels like an inmternal conflict. It is also possible that neither feels quite like home anymore.
We can explore what feels like it is missing, what feels right, what you have outgrown and what you might want to create here.
Missing home
You find yourself missing the people, the places and the parts of your old life; the familiar and the comfortable. Sometimes, you are not knowing exactly what you are actually grieving.
What we might explore
Missing home isn’t always as simple as wanting to go back. Sometimes it is. At other times, you realise that it is the people that you miss, a familiar way of life, a version of yourself, or even things you didn’t realise mattered until they were no longer a part of your life.
We can untangle some of those feelings and give them somewhere to go and make sense of.
Relationships changing
New relationships can be complicated or sometimes tough to form, in adulthood. All the while, your old relationships often change when you’re no longer living the same life or nearby.
What we might explore
Moving can change the way you relate to people; both the people you meet here and the people you’ve left behind.
We can talk through difficult friendships, family relationships, partnerships, loneliness, or the strange experience of having people you love living very different lives from yours, sometimes half way around the world.
Sometimes the question isn’t “How do I fix this relationship?” but “What is changing, and what do I want my relationships to be like, now?”
Life decisions
There are plenty of practical questions when you move country: where to live, how to register, where to shop, what paperwork needs doing.
The harder questions can be much less visible.
What we might explore
We can explore the following and more:
Do I actually want to stay?
What happens if I leave?
Is this relationship still right for me?
What do I want my life here to be like?Am I unhappy here or am I going through a hard time?
We can slow those questions down and look at what is underneath them for you. I help you hear what is happening for you and what is important, without telling you what decision to make.
Finding yourself again
Moving overseas will inevitably change your lifestyle at least and then some. You may be trying to understand who you are now and what you actually want for yourself and your life.
What we might explore
Sometimes you move overseas and discover that the person who arrived isn’t quite the person you are anymore. At other times, this happens more gradually.
You may feel more confident in some ways and less confident in others. Sometimes, what has changed may be your priorities, your relationships, your ambitions or your idea of what a good life means to you.
We create space for that process and not necessarily to get you “back” to who you were, but to understand who you’re becoming and who you would like to be.
Not sure where to start?
You don’t need to know exactly what you need before you book. We can start with a conversation and see where it takes you.
